Humanities

In the Autumn Term Year 1 became ethically informed citizens through exploring the history and traditions of our own and other’s beliefs through our Celebrations topic. We explored traditions such as Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, Diwali and how Christmas is celebrated around the world.

In the Spring Term our topic is Houses, Homes & Locality. Year 1 are enjoying investigating how Newport and homes today compare to that of 100 years ago. Year 1 have decided to turn their shared role play area into an Estate Agency ‘Homes R Us’ inspired by our local Estate Agency ‘Freelancer Lets’. In the second half of the Spring Term our topic will be Growth & Care encouraging our learners to contribute as valued members of society. We are looking forward to our school visit to Bristol Zoo on 13th March!

As a church school, we particularly enjoy a broad and exciting RE programme through our Values scheme.
