Languages, Literacy and Communication

This year we will be studying a range of quality texts including; The Boat, The Changeling, Voices in the Park, The Matchstick Man and Where the Forest Meets the Sea, as well as visual literacy such as The Greatest Gift and For the Birds. We will use the texts to inspire a variety of reading responses and extended writing activities.

We will engage in debates and discussions about local issues and topics and will be encouraged to take part in role play and drama activities inspired by our projects. Our literacy will be developed and nurtured throughout the curriculum, and we will be given lots of opportunities to write for different purposes.

The Welsh language will be developed though the study of the Y Pod Antur scheme with supporting books for our Guided Reading sessions. We will also be given the opportunity to ask and answer questions in Welsh and write emails about or Christmas holidays as well as studying the life for children during the Victorian era. The children will also be encouraged to perform a Welsh song to enhance our vocabulary work and to write a Welsh poem.
