We will be given plenty of opportunity to develop our creativity this year! Our Time Traveller theme links in with our school pantomime that is inspired by the legend of King Arthur and his possible links with Caerleon. This idea has also come from our ‘Pupil Voice’ discussions with the children. We will have plenty of opportunities to develop the Expressive Arts this term! It is an exciting project including music, dance and drama. We will be encouraged to make suggestions to improve scenes. Year 6 also play a major part in creating the title backdrop above the canteen, with everybody responsible for painting their own character. Look out for the programme sellers on the night – that will be us too!
We will also work together to plan a musical performance with a choreographed dance for our school Eisteddfod. We will all need to contribute our ideas to the group in order to achieve an effective Eisteddfod entry. The school choir is available to all who wish to pursue extra musical activities. Recorder club is also available to all pupils. Music lessons will provide opportunities for performing, composing and appraising.
There will also be plenty of opportunity to develop our artistic skills this year, with many activities linked to our themes. These activities range from developing sketching techniques when producing work inspired by the illustrations in The Invention of Hugo Cabret to creating Victorian Christmas decorations. We also plan to create our own versions of The Invisible Prince, a famous artwork displayed at Cardiff Castle.
We are also looking forward to developing our digital skills when creating our own iMovie Trailers this year. This exciting project allows us to showcase our drama through an effective medium!
