In the Autumn Term we will be becoming ambitious, capable learners as we explore Uganda. We will be comparing and contrasting Uganda to our own country, learning about school and home life as well as developing geographical skills with map work. The children will also be planning a journey from the UK to Uganda, listening to first-hand accounts from our visitors who have lived and worked in Africa and taking part in interactive activities at our African Village workshop. We will also be learning some Ugandan phrases and some dances.
Our Spring Term project focuses on life in Wales during the 19th Century calling our project ‘A Blast from the Past’ learning about the life of some important historical inventors that have had such an influence on how we live and work today. We will visit Big Pit and take part in a Servants of the Empire workshops that will give us the opportunity to be 'hands - on' learners.
As a church school, we particularly enjoy a broad and exciting RE programme. This year, Year 5 will enjoy a set of lessons delivered by a visiting Bible Explorer tutor and we will be visiting Malpas Evangelical Church to take part in some interactive workshops exploring the life of Jesus, using modern technologies to retell the story. We also learn about the traditions and symbols of the major world religions.
