In the Autumn Term we will be becoming ambitious, capable learners as we explore what life was like during World War Two. We will be exploring what it was like to be a child during the war, including evacuation procedures and suitcase items. We will look at the foods available during the war and the rationing system. The children will explore the role of soldiers, nurses and civilians during the war. We will also be learning some 1940’s dances. We have a visit planned to the Firing Line museum at Cardiff Castle, where the children will be able to experience a real shelter used within the castle walls.
Our Spring Term project focuses on ‘Changes’. This will link to our Science unit ‘Material changes. Our Summer Term project focuses on ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. We look forward to hearing our pupils voice on where they would like these topics to take their learning journey.
As a church school, we particularly enjoy a broad and exciting RE programme. This year, Year 5 will enjoy a set of lessons delivered by a visiting Bible Explorer tutor and we will be visiting Malpas Evangelical Church to take part in some interactive workshops exploring the life of Jesus, using modern technologies to retell the story. We also learn about the traditions and symbols of the major world religions.
